This workshop helps solicitors with 2 to 5 years' PQE to  negotiate more effectively. Participants will learn more about psychology, and how to overcome their own negotiating weaknesses and maximise  their strengths.

Who should attend this course?

Lawyers 2 to 5 years’ PQE

As a result of attending, you will be able to:
  • negotiate with more confidence and success
  • understand the techniques used by others in negotiating and how to use them to your own advantage
  • negotiate on areas, such as fees, with increased commercial success


This course will cover: 
  • introductions, course objectives and your personal agenda for attending 
  • what negotiating is all about, moving away from win/win and from personalising the situation to get to the commercial reality, starting with “no” 
  • understanding personality and psychology, and your negotiating style, and the other party's
  • role playing the simple techniques to help raise your authority in negotiating and to increase your success
  • working on the sticking point for each individual and closing with an action plan to practise the skills


Emma Rush, who has delivered this session to lawyers who need to increase their confidence and presence in negotiating.  She enjoys working in the role-plays to help people get more from the experience of negotiating and understand the basic principles that guide them to success.
